Trinidad Carnival 2023, get familiar with the music

With the Trinidad Carnival season now in full swing, there’s no shortage of new music to fuel the festival fun.

The Spirit is one of the latest releases from the king of soca, Machel Montano. He is joined by other soca heavy hitters on the Spirit of Carnival project, such as Kes with Mental Day, while Bunji Garlin urges listeners to “shelter yuh self” with Umbrella. Dyam Ting by Super Blue and Nessa Preppy is arguably one of the most talked about recent collaborations.

For many, Blaxx’ One Life To Live is a poignant reminder that he is no longer with us to participate in this first post-COVID Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago – and that we should live our lives to the utmost.

Although by no means an exhaustive list, take note of the following songs as you should have them on heavy rotation as you prep for Carnival 2023:

Lyrikal: Look Back

Bunji Garlin: Hard Fete, Lift, No Gal Can’t Take Yuh Man, Bottle

Fay-Ann Lyons: Upgrade, Get Low

Destra: Easy

Preedy: No Regrets, Doh Judge Me, Nine To Five

Skinny Fabulous: No Relationship, Sauce, Front, Behaviour Nothing

College Boy Jesse: Signal, Rum Punch, Woman, Hold Yuh Gal, Ignition
